Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands has a subtropical climate (average annual temperature 23.2°C), but the sun is very strong during the summer months, so a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are absolutely essential. Based on our experiences so far, we have compiled a list of things we recommend to take with you to the Ogasawara Islands. Please use it as a reference for what to wear and what to bring.
Clothes
·T-shirts
·Long-sleeved shirts for those sensitive to sunburns, or for those who want a better protection
·Short and long pants
·Sweats (some accomodations do not provite pajamas)
·Underwear and socks
·Handkerchief·hat·swimsuit(rash guard, long-sleeve sea shirts and sea leggins, etc.)
Shoes
·Beach sandals / flip-flops(flip-flops or slippers are not allowed when going on Minamijima tours in order to protect the island. If you have “gyosan” (a specific kind of hard plastic flip-flops, for sale in any diving shop as well as shops on Chichijima) you’re good to go!)
·Marine shoes
·Sneakers(for mountain tours and rainy days)
Electronics
Most people bring their own phones and cameras, so here are a few useful things to have:
·Waterproof cases
·Extra batteries
·Extension cords and adaptaters
·Phone and battery chargers, etc.
Supplies
·Toothbrush, toothpaste, razor(for the ferry ride also)
·Towel(for the ferry ride also)
·Tissues
·Soap and shampoo(available on the ferry and accomodations, only bring your own if you have preferences)
·Sunscreen(absolutely necessary!!)
·Sunglasses, hat
·Sea-sickness medicine(available to by at the konbini by the pier, inside the pier and inside the ferry)
·Rain coat, folding umbrella, etc.

·Driver’s license(for those renting a car or motorcycle)

·Cash(JPY)※There are no currency exchange offices in Ogasawara, but there is a post office with ATMs
·Credit card(most places only accept cash)

·Food for the ferry ride(there is a restaurant on the ferry, as well as a lounge and a shop where you can buy snacks, drinks and even Ogasawara and Ogasawaramaru goods)
Winter season
A t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt is usually enough, but a jacket or windbreaker is recommended for chilly days at sea. Depending on the year, there can be a few weeks when the temperature drops down to around 15°C.
